This 22,000m², six-level new college comprises classrooms, laboratories, workshops, sports hall / dance studio and a theatre - all surrounding a naturally-ventilated atrium with a PTFE roof.
The building has a reinforced concrete structure with overhangs and window fins to provide self shading and reduce cooling loads, and is cooled and ventilated by an underfloor variable air volume displacement system. Night purging can be used to pre-cool the structure and further reduce daytime cooling loads. The scheme also benefits from a PV array and solar hot water.
