    IBM North Harbour

Hilson Moran has undertaken almost 100 separate projects for IBM since 1999 and has been on their framework since 2004. The projects have included work at data centres, Business Continuity and Resiliency Services (BCRS), and offices.

A recently completed project at IBM North Harbour involved the replacement of ten chillers which provide 7.5 MW of cooling to the Block E data centre. Temporary hire chillers were linked to the existing system in order to maintain N+1 resilience during all phases of the works, while the chillers were sequentially replaced. Upgrade of the plant configuration was undertaken at the same time to increase operational efficiency.

The project also included the replacement of packaged HV/LV substations, each rated 2,500kVA, together with associated automatic changeover switches. To accommodate the substations an existing DRUPS switchboard was relocated. The controls and BMS serving the mechanical plant was also replaced, with all plant changeovers carefully planned to maintain the power and chilled water supplies to the live data centre at all times.
