    Mike FreedMike Freed, ESOS Lead Assessor & Sustainability Project Director at Hilson Moran explains ESOS & why it should be on your facilities management agenda for 2015.

    What is ESOS?

    The Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme (ESOS) requires large UK organisations to measure energy consumption and undertake audits to identify where energy savings could be made. The scheme takes into account the whole operation of the organisation; including buildings, industrial processes and transport.

    Does ESOS effect my organisation?

    ESOS 500If, on the 31st December 2014, your UK organisation;

    had 250 employees or more, or

    had an annual turnover exceeding €50m and a balance sheet exceeding €43m,

    then ESOS applies to you and your organisation needs to undertake the necessary energy audits to become compliant.

    What are the benefits?

    Undertaking energy audits makes sound financial, environmental and reputational sense. The adage that ‘You cannot manage what you do not measure’ is true for energy consumption and cost; ESOS encourages organisations to make intelligent and strategic decisions to inform their future Energy Management Strategy.
