Ecological Consultant

We are seeking to employ an Ecological Consultant to be based in our London office.

Hilson Moran are interdisciplinary consultants, engineers and advisors, applying progressive design thinking to shape the environments we live in.  We provide a full range of engineering services, exciting innovation and design solutions on a full range of projects from across our network of offices in the UK.

Our recently refurbished London office – the Living Lab – offers a direct link to clients, the ability to further develop our existing relationships and to pursue future opportunities across the city. We also have full view of some of our most iconic designs, including 20 Fenchurch Street ‘the Walkie Talkie’ and 30 St Mary’s Axe ‘The Gherkin’ from our river café space.

We are seeking to employ an proactive and enthusiastic Ecological Consultant to join our expanding team in London.

The ideal candidate will have experience managing Phase 1 ecological surveys and species-specific surveys. You’ll oversee planning applications, environmental assessments, compliance, and mitigation strategies. Your work will focus on ecologically sensitive sites across various sectors both in the UK and internationally, contributing to the design of Net Positive Places.

Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Lead ecological assessments for property development projects.
  • Collaborate with architects, planners, and engineers to integrate ecological considerations into designs.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and best practices.
  • Develop strategies for enhancing biodiversity on development sites.
  • Advise on habitat creation, restoration, and management.
  • Implement measures to achieve biodiversity net gain.
  • Conduct ecological surveys.
  • Ideally hold survey licences for protected species.
  • Analyse data and prepare ecological reports.
  • Engage with clients, local authorities, and conservation bodies.
  • Present findings and recommendations to project teams and stakeholders.
  • Oversee project teams and ensure high-quality deliverables.
  • Utilise data visualisation technologies for data analysis and visualisation such as GIS.
  • Contribute to the planning and execution of Ecological and EIA projects.
  • Enhance project management and technical skills with significant opportunities for career growth.

Background & Qualifications:

  • Experience in contaminated land assessment, preferably with a focus on the development sector.
  • Strong knowledge of environmental regulations and best practices. 
  • Effective communication and teamwork abilities. 
  • Bachelor’s degree inEcology, or a related field.
