We are delighted to announce that the base build for a new life sciences diagnostic and innovation hub and centre for precision medicine has reached practical completion. The £25 million CityLabs 2.0 development in the heart of Manchester city centre will be fully occupied by life sciences group Qiagen when finally complete and opened next year.
The Citylabs campus is being developed as a joint venture between Manchester Science Partnerships and Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust as a hub for start-up and established medtech and diagnostic businesses and aims to champion ground-breaking research critical to long term health and well being.
CityLabs 2.0 is one of many projects Hilson Moran are proud to have supported on the campus providing MEP design and Sustainability Consultancy services for the scheme. In particular the brief called for flexibility in design to suit multiple occupancy profiles with adaptable systems which can be reconfigured easily during the life of the building to suit differing tenant needs and the evolving nature of this science. With our commitment to a zero carbon future a wide range of energy efficiency measures have been incorporated in the design including an optimised façade solution, good level of internal daylight, as well as highly efficient building services. As a result, the building demonstrates carbon emissions that are at least 15% below that expected for equivalent buildings.
We have been involved in the campus for a number of years, including a number of fit-outs within Citylabs 1.0, concept design for Citylabs 3.0 and Old St Mary’s Hospital. We are now working on the concept design of Citylabs 4.0, which will be the next critical addition to the world renowned Manchester diagnostic campus.
