Hilson Moran takes next step in Net Zero journey with 27% reduction in Carbon Footprint

Hilson Moran has issued a new World Green Building Council (WGBC) Net Zero Carbon Buildings Report for 2022, showing a 27% reduction in carbon emissions across the business compared to 2021. Independently verified by carbon management platform Greenly, the report assesses the annual operational energy demand and carbon emissions for our offices across the UK.

This new report marks the latest step in our corporate sustainability journey, since signing the WGBC Net Zero Carbon Commitment in June 2021. Developed to recognise and promote advanced climate leadership action from businesses, the commitment now includes 175 signatories, accounting for 7.2 million tonnes of CO2 emissions. Signatories are required to disclose and assess annual asset and operational energy demand and carbon emissions. As part of the commitment, Hilson Moran has pledged to only occupy assets that are net zero carbon in operation by 2030.

Hilson Moran’s overall carbon emissions dropped from 193 tonnes CO2e in 2021 to 141 tonnes CO2e in 2022. This is a 27% reduction, or a saving equivalent to 30 return flights between London and New York.

The full report features a breakdown of energy use across each of our four UK offices, looking at energy consumption, carbon emissions and fugitive emissions from refrigerant systems. The 27% reduction in total emissions was partly achieved by the relocation of our Farnborough office to enable flexible working patterns and modern facilities for our staff.

The report forms part of the wider objectives of our Carbon Manifesto. Launched on Earth Day 2021 and driven by the belief that we have the responsibility to drive change in our industry. The Carbon Manifesto outlined Hilson Moran’s wider sustainability mission:

  • To promote, educate and influence the construction and property industry.
  • To collaborate with professional institutions and academia.
  • To push the boundaries on all our projects and lead by example, through our actions as an organisation.
  • To provide our clients with informed choices at all project stages and deliver industry leading outcomes, to tackle the climate crisis.
