The new build Cranleigh School in Abu Dhabi is the largest school in the United Arab Emirates, developed by the Tourism Development and Investment Company (TDIC) for local and expatriate families living in the region. The opening of the 90,000 sq m campus was phased to welcome students from 2014 and accommodates more than 1,600 students aged from 3 to 18.
The development achieved a ‘Two Pearl’ Design Rating Certificate, awarded by the Urban Planning Council (UPC) as part of the Estidama Pearl Building Rating System. This was achieved by Hilson Moran’s extensive energy modelling and our development of operational strategies for energy, water and waste management within the campus.
The school also provides a high quality learning environment for students, achieved via careful selection of interior finishing materials, the provision of natural daylight and a sophisticated fresh air delivery system controlled by carbon dioxide sensors within the classrooms. The school is expected to achieve a reduction in water consumption of over 20 per cent and a reduction in energy consumption of over 35 per cent when compared to a typical school building in the region.
